Headless Horseman, From Ireland to Sleepy Hollow

 



Everyone knows the legend of Sleepy Hollow, the headless knight, written by Washington Irving. But not many know its origins, which is not the version happening in Tarrytown during the 17th century. I am talking about an old Irish legend, coming from the iron-age. The Dullahan was the precursor of the headless horseman of Sleepy Hollow, with a myth just as sinister. To many, the Dullahan was the harbinger of death. This was due to that he only called for the name of his victims, and nobody could stop him. The only way to protect yourself from him was to through precious metal on the ground. This is for this reason that people would leave gold in from of their homes.

I think most people have at least heard of the Assassin’s Creed series, created and managed by Ubisoft. For those unfamiliar with it, the games follow a shadow war between the Order of Assassins (the “good” side) and the Templars (the “bad” side) across human history. The Angevin Empire, A Symbole of a long Rivalry Between France and England (Part 1)

  France and England are pretty famous rivals. Today this rivalry is more likely to be limited to Friday night soccer games, but things used to be much more intense between the two nations. We can count, for example, the Napoleonic wars, the 7 Years War, the war of Spanish Succession and the 100 Years War amongst all the moments the two came into conflict. However, today we will go over the biggest middle-finger England gave to France in the form of the Angevin Empire. For the French readers, don't worry, this is more of a 'settling the score' action anyway . The Foundations  The “empire” (historians can't seem to agree whether it was one or not), was actually formed in 1154. Henry II, duke of Normandy and count of Anjou, married the duchess of Aquitaine, Eleanor, which set the foundation for the Angevin Empire. Mara, Demon King of the Sixth Realm

  Buddha, the founder of the Buddhist religion, is one of the most well-known figures in India and Tibet. However, his path to illumination wasn’t an easy journey, with one encounter in particular, which will be today's topic of interest. This being is known as Mara, the demon King of the Sixth Realm. Mara is a recurrent figure in Buddhist texts, being a usual adversary of Prince Siddhartha before he became Buddha. But first, we need to understand where this figure comes from. Unfortunately for us, his origins are incredibly blurry, with no legend covering where this being came from. Regarding inspiration, it is highly debated that its creation might have been inspired by an entity dating back from an even older folklore, now forgotten.
